Sending MIDI to Your DAW
Noemi works as a generative MIDI plug-in: its Pattern, Generator, Rhythm, Sequencer and Transformer nodes produce notes, and a MIDI Output node set to "Host (DAW)" streams them back out to the host, where you route them to your DAW's own instruments.
REQUIREMENTS
- 1Use the VST3 or CLAP build (not the desktop AU - see "Host (DAW) Output" above).
- 2Add a MIDI Output node (Modules > MIDI Output) and connect a MIDI-producing node to it.
- 3Set the MIDI Output node's device to "Host (DAW)". The panel should read "Connected".
- 4Noemi follows the host transport - press Play in your DAW to start the generative parts.
ABLETON LIVE
- 1Put Noemi (VST3) on a MIDI track - the "Noemi track".
- 2Create a second MIDI track holding the instrument you want to drive.
- 3On that second track, set "MIDI From" to the Noemi track.
- 4In the dropdown just below it, select "Noemi" (the plug-in's name) - NOT "Pre FX", "Post FX", or "Track In". Only the plug-in-name entry taps Noemi's MIDI output.
- 5Set that track's Monitor to "In".
- 6Press Play. Noemi's notes now play the second track's instrument.
REAPER
- Add a MIDI send from the Noemi track to the destination track (or route the track's MIDI output), and input-monitor / record-arm the destination track so it plays incoming MIDI.
BITWIG / OTHERS
- Hosts that expose plug-in note output (Bitwig and similar) list Noemi's MIDI output as a note source you can wire to another device or track.
NOTES vs. CC
- Over VST3, some hosts (notably Ableton Live and Bitwig) pass note-on/note-off but drop MIDI CC and pitch-bend at the VST3-to-host bridge. Noemi's Pattern/Generator send notes, so this is usually not a concern - but MPE/expression data will not arrive over VST3 into Live.
AU WORKAROUND (IAC BUS)
- If you must use the AU, route the MIDI Output node to a macOS IAC Driver bus (a normal MIDI device, enabled in Audio MIDI Setup > MIDI Studio), then set that IAC bus as the MIDI input of a track in your DAW. This sidesteps the plug-in MIDI-out path that AU hosts don't support.
